Child Support in Arkansas

Experienced Child Support Attorneys serving Jonesboro & Surrounding Areas

According to Arkansas law, parents are lawfully obligated to provide financial support for their children. In the event of a divorce, separation, or in cases in which the parents were never married, courts have the power to order noncustodial parents to make regular child support payments to their child’s custodial parent.

However, Jonesboro child support disputes are highly contentious, which is why it is imperative to obtain legal representation from an experienced lawyer. At The Law Office of Paul Ford, we possess the experience and skill necessary to represent your best interests and ensure that you get the most favorable results from your Jonesboro child support case.

Our child support lawyers can help with your case. Call (870) 853-3621 today!

Calculating Child Support in Arkansas

A parent’s support obligation is based on their monthly income. Income means any form of payment—such as salary, wages, commissions, bonuses, workers’ compensation, and interest—minus deductions including federal and state income tax, withholding from Social Security and Medicare, medical insurance paid for the dependent child, and current court-ordered support payments paid for other dependents. Additionally, the number of children is taken into account when determining child support payments.

The noncustodial parent’s basic support obligation is calculated by using the most up-to-date Monthly Family Support Chart. If the parent’s income falls in between two of the income brackets, then he or she can use the lower amount listed.

If the parent’s income exceeds the income amounts listed on the chart, however, then his or her basic support obligation is calculated as a percentage of their monthly, like so:

  • One child – 15%
  • Two children – 21%
  • Three children – 25%
  • Four children – 28%
  • Five children – 30%
  • Six children – 32%
